Welcome to WhatsTheRent.com!! My name is James, and I am the founder of WhatsTheRent.com. This site was launched in early 2008, and it is my goal to make this site the best online source for rentals. I created this site after becoming frustrated with the other options out there. Some are down right expensive, most are plagued by fake profiles and spam, and the free ones are not very user friendly. And nothing annoys me more than when I am looking for a room to rent and the site requires me to create a profile and enter all sorts of personal information just to browse listings.
WhatsTheRent.com is the only site that allows simultaneous searching for rooms to rent and units to rent. Sometimes you just don't know if you want to rent a room or if you want your own place. On WhatsTheRent.com, you can see all your options on the same page. WhatsTheRent.com is also the only site that is 100% free yet still has many user friendly features, such as automatic notification of new listings in your area, the ability to save a search, and a very handy map feature that allows you to enter in a reference location (such as a your job address) and it will give you estimated drive time and distance to that location.
From an owner's point of view, WhatsTheRent.com is very user friendly. All we ask for is your email address, and we only need that so that we can send you emails from potential renters. We then ask for some basic information about your room or property, and the rest is optional. We have many items that you can choose to enter or just leave blank. But remember, the more information you enter, the fewer questions you'll need to answer form other users. We also encourage you to take a short video clip of your place, and then upload that to YouTube. You can then link to that video when you create your listing. What better way to show off your room, house, or apartment than with a video walkthrough?
Thank you for visiting WhatsTheRent.com. If you have any questions or comments, or if you have suggestions for features you'd like to see, please feel free to contact me.
